Winter has entered the chat. Here are my four hacks to enjoy the cold weather, with a twist.
The Perfect Pairing: Unitards and Layers
Let’s talk about activewear. One of my absolute favorites this season is the strappy one-piece unitard. It’s sleek, comfortable, and versatile. Pair it with a teddy bear coat or a felt trench, and you’ve got the perfect mix of cozy and chic. There's something effortlessly stylish about a fitted catsuit under a long coat — it strikes that just-right balance of sexy and unexpected.
Dress it up with tall boots or keep it casual with cute sneakers like Adidas Sambas. You can even pair the unitard with an oversized sweater for a laid-back, all-day comfort look. Whether you’re baking cookies at home or running errands, it works. And yes, you can throw on a blazer and easily transition it into an office or school board-appropriate outfit. It’s the kind of piece that blends practicality with flair. (Two things I am all about!)
Beauty Sleep Basics
For those who prioritize beauty and rest, a sleep mask is a must. I recommend one with padding and a gentle fit. This one, which I love, is 3D — meaning it has an indentation that leaves room for your lashes (genius, right?) This is perfect for anyone with sensitive eyes and those of us maintaining lash extensions. It’s soft, doesn’t rub anything unnecessarily, and makes a thoughtful stocking stuffer.
Whether you’re gifting it, packing it for your winter travels, or simply indulging yourself, a good sleep mask is a small luxury that makes a big difference.
Elevate Your Laundry with Essential Oils and Dryer Balls
Self-care extends to small, delightful details — like how your clothes smell. Wool dryer balls infused with essential oils are a game-changer. My personal favorite scent? The Ritz Carl blend. It’s subtle, luxurious, and always a conversation starter.
For a bit of fun, display the dryer balls in a gorgeous glass or vintage silver bowl in your laundry room. It’s a small touch that elevates your space and makes laundry feel a little more indulgent.
You’ve Earned Some Luxuries
For a truly unique gift, consider giving the gift of self-care experiences. At Quinn Vise Hair Design (in Holland, Michigan), we have some amazing options to share:
- Pedicure Parties: Host a luxurious, relaxing experience for your loved ones. Picture yourself, your mom, sister, or closest friends gathered in our four-pedicure throne room. Want to make it extra special? Our hospitality desk can help you customize your visit. Whether it’s chilled champagne or a selection of small bites, our team can curate the perfect moment. Our pedicure room can accommodate four total guests, so come relax alongside three of your besties.
- Bigger Groups: Have more people to include? We also offer a manicure-pedicure switch experience for groups of up to eight. Four people can start at the pedicure thrones while the others get manicures, then swap! It’s the perfect way to share a day of pampering and fun, capped off with dinner or more bonding time together.
- Customized Packages: Take advantage of our holiday special: choose any three services and get 15% off. Mix and match treatments like a lash lift and tint, a shampoo and style, or a shellac manicure. Whether you’re gifting this to someone special or saving it for yourself, it’s a wonderful way to enter the new year feeling refreshed.
The Twist
Last but certainly not least, try a simple craft that makes something enjoyable for the whole family. Homemade goodies from the kitchen always add warmth in the winter, so try picking up some locally made bakery bread, and making your own butter at home. Trust me, it’s much easier than it sounds!
Simply add 32oz of heavy whipping cream to your grocery cart (at Aldi it’s about $5.99), and when you get home, pour it into your stand mixer and beat for 17-19 minutes — or until the butter separates from the buttermilk. Make sure to keep that buttermilk and jar it up for making Sunday pancakes! With the butter itself, take a tea towel or cheese cloth you already have on-hand, and give it a good squeeze to make sure you get the rest of that buttermilk out. Ball up your homemade butter, almost like Playdough, and run it under cold water to finish.
Play around with this and add your own special touch. I love to pinch in a bit of pink Himalayan salt, and you can explore adding honey or rosemary, too.
Wrapped Up with a Bow
Whether you’re layering cozy activewear, indulging in the little things, or gifting an unforgettable spa experience, take time to savor these special touches. Every moment, especially during the holidays, is an opportunity to deliberately add in a dash of joy.
